More violent imagery from the right

A few months ago in this space, we  called attention to the repeated use of violent imagery and hateful and personal – even misogynistic - attacks by North Carolina right-wing politicians.

Last month, the seriously troubled GOP congressional candidate Vernon Robinson revived the machine gun fundraiser.

Now, this week, we get word of more of the same as Senate Republicans hold another gun fundraiser — this one featuring more tasteless attacks on the Governor of the state.

A note to NC conservatives (including Senate leader Phil Berger – pictured above): Come on people, show just a smidgen of class and respect. We all know that politics is a rough and tumble game, but please ditch the violence and macho posturing.  In these tough times in which the a lot of disturbed people are out there living under great stress, the last thing we need is for supposedly responsible elected officials to be making jokes about weapons and other officials with whom they disagree.

Hmm, no mention of hate speech from the left, interesting. Nah, not really, just more of the same old hypocrisy. How do you sleep at night, Rob? Oh, yeah, equal billing with Fritz the Cat.

You should be ashamed of yourself, but you’re not. That’s what keeps me awake at night.

    Cheerio!

I didn’t see any violent images or references. No “jokes about weapons” either. They are giving away Perdue brand turkeys as door prizes, and that offends you? I’m offended by this governor’s failure to understand economics and the subsequent fiscal disaster in our state. I’m offended that she thought, even for a moment, that suspending the democratic process was a good idea. I’m offended by her lack of integrity.

Hey “Non” and Scott — Thanks for the comments. Sorry I didn’t make the post simple enough for everyone to understand,.

The point was that it’s irresponsible for elected officals and would-be elected officials to use the kind of violent (i.e firing weapons and talking about striking other elected officials) and disrepsectful (using sophomoric tactics like the turkey giveaway) language and imagery that state conservative leaders continue to use.

Governor Perdue deserves plenty of criticism for lots of things, but she is the duly-elected Governor of our state and deserves more respect than this. The latest event is simply classless and in poor taste.

Firthermore, I’m not aware of any incidents in recent times in which such violent or disrepsetful langauge and tactics have been used by progressive North Carolina public officials against their political opponents. If you are, please let me know and I will criticize them too.
