Top of the morning

Here’s a nominee for the dumbest comment about Kevin Hill’s victory in the runoff in the Wake County school board election. It’s in the News & Observer story this morning about reaction to the results.

Bill LuMaye said Wednesday on his talk show on WPTF-AM 680 that the public should prepare to hire more correction officers to staff jails, because a return to old school board policies could lead to more crime

I would also nominate the dumb editorial in the N&O from Jim Jenkins- sounded like something my fifth grader would have written.

I feel pain coming for Kevin Hill. He promised to do right and to be fair to ALL students. He indicated to many groups his mind was open on all issues. I saw him as the middle of the road candidate. If he fires the top boss and returns to the wants of the a few, he has lied to the voters. We are waiting. For many voters, it was a difficult decision. It was not a vote for Democrats, or a vote against Art Pope or indications of goods things to come for the Democrat Party. He appeared to be more in the middle and he had a background in education. David Parker shows how little the issue of children really matter to him by his political comments after the results.

Back to what LuMaye said, Perhaps I missed something since I live in Johnston County, but had anything “on the ground” actually changed in Wake County schools yet? I mean, “a return to old school board policies” would suggest that there had been in place for a while NEW school board policies that were having a significant effect on kids, teachers, administrators, etc., would it not? It was my understanding that the current lame duck board just voted to approve the new assignment plans that the new Superintendent had only this summer drawn up. So … am I missing something?or, is Bill LuMaye living in an imaginary world of his own making that never actually existed?
