First, the man take the extraordinarily strange and undisciplined step of attacking the mainstream media and hurling the rather bizarre epithet “roadkill” just because he doesn’t like the coverage of his unprecedented actions against public school teachers.
Now, this morning, Tillis sent out a tweet in which he said the following:
“With 66% of all fourth graders not proficient in reading in NC, who believes spending more money on the status quo is the right answer?”
Uh, excuse us Thom, but exactly how is slashing state spending on education so that we’re 49th in the country (i.e. as your budget did) going to help this problem? Is making sure that class sizes are not out of control, or that teachers can have a planning period or that our poorer rural and urban schools aren’t staffed exclusively with newbie teachers “spending more money on the status quo“?
Clearly. Tillis is feeling the stress of the job. How else to explain such transparently dumb public statements just hours apart?
Conservatives had better hope that Tillis’s advisors get him under control soon, lest he really become unhinged. Meanwhile, his political opponents are probably hoping that someone puts a microphone in the man’s face as often as possible.
