As primary shifts to South Carolina, it’s ‘game on’ or ‘game over’ (video)

The battle over the Republican presidential primary now shifts to South Carolina, where front runner Mitt Romney faces  a tougher time attracting voters than he did in New Hampshire.

N.C. State University political science professor Andy Taylor tells N.C. Policy Watch that Newt Gingrich and Rick Perry will continue to go after Romney’s business expertise, and paint him as a predatory corporate raider for his role at Bain Capital. Jon Huntsman has even claimed Romney liked “firing people” during his tenure at that financial firm.

But Taylor believes if Romney can fend off those attacks and win in the Palmetto State, it will signal the race may indeed be over for many of the other Republican challengers.

Taylor expects Ron Paul may well stay in the race longer than other contenders, simply because of his deep and passionate support-base.

South Carolina’s primary is one week from Saturday.

Taylor handicaps the GOP presidential primary and discusses North Carolina’s gubernatorial contest this weekend on News & Views. For a preview of his interview with Chris Fitzsimon, click below:
