The NC Budget and Tax Center releases its county-by-county Economic Snapshot [1] today. If you’re curious about how your county is doing in terms of employment, income, housing, health, education, and supports for working families – the data is available in a very cool, interactive map. [1]

On Tuesday the Joint Legislative Oversight Committee for Health and Human Services has a full agenda [2] including more discussion about what should become of the Dorothea Dix property [3].

The North Carolina Housing Coalition [4] along with the National Low Income Housing Coalition will release a new report Tuesday that will highlight the affects of the weak economy and decreasing homeownership rate on the housing prospects of renters.

[5]If you missed the “Out-of-Control [6]” tour last week in Greenville, you have another chance to hear the presentation Tuesday evening in Charlotte. N.C. Policy Watch, Democracy North Carolina, Institute for Southern Studies, N.C. AFL-CIO, and Progress North Carolina headline the 7:00pm meeting [7] at Teamsters Local Union 71.

The fate of Asheville’s water system is back on the docket in Raleigh this Wednesday as the Metropolitan Sewerage/Water System Committee, chaired by Buncombe County Rep. Tim Moffitt [8], meets. The committee is weighing whether Asheville will retain control of its water system or whether the system will be transferred [9] to a regional authority.

The NC Chamber of Commerce holds its 70th Annual Meeting [10] this Wednesday over in Durham. The event will feature Dr. Nido Qubein [11], president of High Point University and Ronald Brownstein, national affairs columnist for the Los Angeles Times.

Wednesday evening, Environment North Carolina will host a Citizen Activist Training [12] on Fracking from 6:00pm to 9:00pm in Cary at the Page Walker History and Arts Center. [13]

Over in Greensboro, Occupy Greensboro [14] will roll out the red carpet Wednesday evening as the group premiers a new short film [15] at the Carolina Theatre that takes a smart and funny look at the often misunderstood roots of the housing crash. Tables will also be set up in the theater’s lobby for attendees to speak directly with experts about fighting foreclosure procedures and available resources that can help residents keep their homes.

On Thursday, opponents of the constitutional amendment banning gay marriage will march from the N.C. State Bell Tower to the General Assembly in an event labeled the “Ides of Love [16].” More than 900 people,  [17] who plan to vote No on Amendment One on May 8th,  will take to the streets at 11:00am.

And finally, March Madness continues this week with the NCAA basketball tournament. UNC, Duke, N.C. State, UNC-Asheville, and Davidson were all invited to the Big Dance. You can find a printable bracket here [18].
