Protesters greet NC lawmakers returning for brief special session (pictures)

About two dozen demonstrators were on hand Monday to welcome state legislators back to Raleigh for today’s special session.

Outside the legislative building, protesters spoke out against cuts to public education, rising tuition, Amendment One, hydraulic fracking, and Senate Bill 575.

Inside, Senate President Phil Berger unveiled the ” Excellent Public Schools Act [1]” – a Republican proposal that would place teachers on annual contracts and direct local school districts to implement a merit pay system for all educators by 2013.
