Governor Bev Perdue officially rolls out her budget today, seeking support for a 3/4-cent sales tax increase to restore funding to public education after last year’s deep cuts put forth by the Republican-controlled legislature.

Perdue said in a You Tube video released Wednesday afternoon that her $20.9 billion budget will help save or create 11,000 new education positions across the state.

Senate President Pro Tem Phil Berger [1] promptly dismissed the idea, saying tax increases are not the direction the legislature will be moving during the short session.
