Sen. Pete Brunstetter, the Senate budget chair, said today that the Senate budget would not go through budget subcommittees, where rank and file legislators have the best chance to discuss spending recommendations.
Instead the budget, developed in secret by Brunstetter and a couple of his colleagues over the weekend, will be presented to the full Senate Appropriations Committee for a vote.
Brunstetter revealed the highly unusual budget process on the Senate floor Tuesday afternoon in response to questions from Senate Minority Leader Martin Nesbitt.
So much for open and transparent government. Unbelievable.
