Home cooking for Tillis

Not too many years ago, folks on the Right were howling about a decision by former House Speaker Jim Black to give state money to Johnson and Wales University, a private school in Charlotte well known for its culinary arts program.

The N.C. Institute for Constitutional Law even sued [1] to try to force the school to refund the money. The effort failed but the pundits on the Right continued their relentless attacks on Black’s support of state funding for the private school in his home county, ridiculing it at every turn as a symbol of what was wrong with the General Assembly leadership.

Now the N&O’s John Frank reports [2] that the current House budget, under the leadership of another Mecklenburg County Speaker of the House, Republican Thom Tillis, includes $500,000 for the same Johnson and Wales campus.

But nobody seems to be very upset about it this time.

Sounds like home cooking for Tillis in the budget and on Right Wing Avenue.
