Former state Representative Stephen LaRoque (R-Kinston) makes his first court appearance Monday after being indicted last month by a federal grand jury on charges of stealing from two federally-funded non-profits he ran.
LaRoque, who denies any wrongdoing, officially resigned from the legislature August 1st, putting an end to a bi-partisan investigation by his legislative colleagues.
Jane Pinsky with the NC Coalition for Lobbying and Government Reform joins us this weekend on News & Views to talk about the LaRoque case, how the ethics committee addresses such complaints, and the need for greater transparency on Jones Street.
