Alyssa Rosenberg at Think Progress had an interesting post yesterday afternoon in which she reported that even Rush Limbaugh has been slamming Congressman Todd Akin’s Henry Aldridge-like claims about rape victims. This is from Limbaugh’s show yesterday:
“He’s not the first guy to say this. I’ve had people tell me that a woman’s body shuts down in rape. There’s no evidence for this. I mean it’s absolutely absurd. This leads to the second problem. This is absurd. That belief that a woman’s body shuts down and the whole notion of “legitimate” “illegitimate” rape, that’s the thing that bothers me about it. That’s just absurd. It’s not intelligent.”
Interestingly and sadly, not everyone on the far right appears to have gotten the memo about dumping on Akin. Rosenberg reports that Mike Huckabee is still defending Akin and that he provided Akin with an opportunity on his show to explain that what he really meant by referring to “legitimate” rape was that women make all sorts of false claims about rape.
Good lord. No wonder even people like Richard Burr are trying to send this dude packing ASAP .
