Yesterday, Mother Jones magazine published a very disturbing story about North Carolina congressman Walter Jones . According to the story, the congressman appeared on “a notorious white nationalist radio program on Saturday” known as “The Political Cesspool.”
The host of the show — a man named James Edwards — is, according to the story, “an avowed white nationalist.” A website for the show seems to confirm this when it says says the following :
“We represent a philosophy that is pro-White and are against political centralization.”
“We wish to revive the White birthrate above replacement level fertility and beyond to grow the percentage of Whites in the world relative to other races.”
Walter Jones, of course, is an interesting character. Though fiercely conservative on many issues he was/is also a fierce opponent of the Iraq war and foreign interventions generally. He has appeared on Chris Fitzsimon’s radio show, “News and Views” several times over the years.
It appears he went on the “Cesspool” show to promote his opposition to foreign military interventions. The show was apparently not about politics or his re-election campaign which — according to experts — seems sure to succeed. By appearing on the show, however, Jones lends credence to the obnoxious views espoused by the hosts. This is simply not a responsible position for any public offical.
Let’s hope that the congressman — who did not respond to calls from Mother Jones and — did not understand the nature of the show before appearing on it. And let’s also hope that he takes action ASAP to make amends for this egregious error. If, as is widely expected, Jones is going to serve in Washington for years to come on behalf of hundreds of thousands of North Carolinians, he needs to disavow shows like this and its hosts immediately.
