Pre-K, poverty, and the 47 percent…(video)

It has now been exactly a month since a state appeals court ruled that all at-risk four-year-olds should be allowed to enroll in NC Pre-K, the state’s award winning preschool program. Instead of coming up with the funding to respond to the court’s ruling, legislative leaders have instead chosen to appeal the court’s decision, leaving thousands of at-risk kids locked out of the program that the court says is part of their constitutional right to a sound, basic education.
Rob Thompson with the Covenant with the North Carolina’s Children and the coalition Together NC joins us this week on News & Views to talk about access to NC Pre-K and new Census numbers that find more than half a million North Carolina children (roughly 580,000) live in poverty.
Thompson also weighs in on Mitt Romney’s ‘47 percent’ remark , which has dominated the news this week.
