The Gaston Gazette reported last Friday that Gaston County officials have given the “green light for an anti-abortion group to begin holding office hours in the Gaston County Health Department.”
The group is called “The Crisis Pregnancy Center of Gaston County” and here is how the group’s website describes it:
“Our pregnancy center is a nonprofit pro-life organization of committed Christians sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ and actively helping women, men and families in crisis pregnancy situations.”
Got it? Gaston County public dollars are going to help underwrite an explicitly religious propaganda shop masquerading as a group that knows something (and has something useful to say about) health. This is, in a word, outrageous.
And in case, you had any doubt about so-called “crisis pregnancy centers,” what they do and how they attempt to confuse women into thinking that they are actually concerned about health, check out this powerful 2011 study by NARAL Pro-Choice NC which found that most centers employ no actual health professionals and typically fail to disclose to “patients” that they are NOT medical facilities.
