You knew some kind of order had come down from the right-wing powers that be when people like Sean Hannity all of a sudden turned all warm and fuzzy on immigrants .
Now, it appears that the new conservative 180 degree switcheroo has trickled down to the state level. Today, the North Carolina House Select Committee on the State’s Role on Immigration Policy — a group dominated by ultra-conservative lawmakers that had, just months ago, provided a platform for Alamance County’s anti-immigrant sheriff to prattle on at one of its meetings — met to issue its report in anticipation of the 2013 session.
Somewhat amazingly, the meeting lasted all of about five very sober minutes and featured only the perfunctory approval of a report that appears merely to make general recommendations and offer no specific legislative proposals at all. No “show us your papers law” proposal — no nothing.
Wow, what a difference and election can make!
It should be fun to see whether the anti-immigrant groups like ALIPAC and NC FIRE are down with the national right-wing marching orders or are, instead, crying foul and calling the House Speaker Tillis a traitor to the cause. Stay tuned.
