The U.S House overwhelmingly approved $9.7 billion on Friday to cover flood insurance claims for home owners and businesses ravaged last October by Superstorm Sandy .
The 354-67 vote came following blowback by Republican lawmakers in the Northeast this week, who sharply criticized  House Speaker Boehner’s decision not to vote on the package when Congress was working on a fiscal cliff compromise.
Three of North Carolina’s newest congressional representatives – Reps. Richard Hudson, Mark Meadows, and George Holding – joined veteran Republican Virginia Foxx in voting against the federal aid.
