Now that the NC Senate has passed its $20.6 billion budget, the state House will begin crafting its version of the state spending plan.

Beginning Tuesday morning several key appropriation subcommittees will meet [1] to discuss their areas of the budget.

Rep. Darren Jackson [2], who serves as a vice chair on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Justice and Public Safety, expects the House budget will look quite a bit different that the Senate’s proposal [3].

Jackson appeared on News & Views with Chris Fitzsimon over the weekend and  said he does not anticipate the House will agree with the Senate and push to move oversight of the State Bureau of Investigation from Attorney General to the Department of Public Safety.

The Wake County representative also has concerns about how state employees and teachers fare in the 2013-2015 budget. The Senate provided no pay raises for state employees and eliminated more than 5,000 positions.
