NC, Southern States: Shorter and sicker lives after age 65

A new report on life expectancy from the federal Centers for Disease Control is troubling for those who care about life and health in NC.  At age 65, people who live in southern states – including NC – can expect to live a shorter time and be sicker during the rest of their lives than people in the rest of the country.  One more reason NC should accept the federal money to expand Medicaid health coverage to 500,000 of our lowest-income workers.

Conditions in NC are rapidly deteriorating which will result in a swifter than ever departure for so many already disadvantaged citizens.

When folks reach age 65, they automatically receive Medicare coverage, and are then eligible for Medicaid also if they require nursing home care. I would imagine smoking, high fat foods, obesity, and a love for pork would all contribute to these health issues in NC.

While life expectancy is related to multiple factors, poverty being the biggest, there is little question that having decent health care before you get to age 65 increases your chances of living a healthy life after age 65.

Alex, your bias is showing but that’s probably intentional.

Because nobody outside of the South smokes, eats high-fat foods, is overweight, or likes pork products.

Democrats have been doing pork in this state for 100 years.

Wow, Alex, is that the best you can do? You’ll never make the big time like that. Try harder.

You go Alex! Guess they don’t want to own up to the mess they made all these 100+ years of mismanagement. It is ridiculous liberal thinking to believe that 2 years of GOP control is to blame for all the bad things in this state. Too many folks with glass houses throw rocks around here
