Abortion restrictions advance to the Governor, critics chide women “won’t take this” (video)

The NC Senate voted 32-13 late Thursday to pass a restrictive abortion bill, sending the legislation to Governor Pat McCrory’s desk.
Supporters of SB 353 say the bill is intended to protect women’s health. Critics argue it is designed to shut down abortion clinics, limit insurance coverage, and further restrict access to comprehensive health care for women.
During the heated debate Senator Martin Nesbitt warned his Republican colleagues:
“I don’t know how to tell you this, but choice, a woman’s right to control her health, belongs to the women that want to exercise that right,” said the Buncombe County Democrat. “It’s not your business to tell them what’s good for them and bad for them. They don’t want your opinion. They didn’t ask for your opinion. They don’t need your opinion. They know what you’re doing.”
The measure, which passed the NC House earlier this month, will now be before Governor McCrory.
Planned Parenthood is calling on the governor to honor a pledge he made as a candidate and veto the legislation.
