It apparently happened six months ago, but Lt. Gov. Dan Forest is no longer on the Board of Directors of Faith Driven Consumer — a Raleigh-based nonprofit that seeks to connect consumers to companies to which it gives high ratings for their supposed level of faithfulness to a “Biblical world view.” The nonprofit reported last week that Forest was replaced on January 30 with man named Edward J. Dillon — also of Raleigh.
As NC Policy Watch reported in late November of last year, Forest had been one of the group’s founding directors when it first filed papers with the Secretary of State in 2011. As we also reported, one of the group’s main outputs is a series of company reviews in which it grades corporations with zero to five stars for their supposed faithfulness to the group’s particular brand of “Christianity.”
Under the “Retail Specialty” category, for instance, three companies are reviewed: Toys R Us (three stars, “leaning toward a Biblical world view”), Barnes and Noble (two stars, “leaning against a Biblical world view”) and Victoria’s Secret (one star, “strongly leaning against a Biblical world view”). The website also provides a convenient link to the Victoria’s Secret website (and other lingerie retailers as well) — presumably so that discerning Christians can make absolutely sure about the recommendations.
As best as can be determined through online searches, Forest remains on the Boards of three other nonprofits mentioned in our 2012 report: True Trust Brands (another group that seeks to connect “faith-driven consumers” to approved corporations), Re:Vision North Carolina (a 501(c)(4) nonprofit that appears to have been a precursor to Forest’s campaign) and Triangle Leadership Forum (a conservative Christian men’s group of which Forest is still listed as president).
