Under the federal Affordable Care Act starting today people who live in North Carolina can create an account on the new Health Marketplace [2].  This account will be used for shopping for health plans in the new marketplace and seeing what plans are available that fit family budgets.

People will have to wait until October 1 to apply for health coverage but creating an account allows them to get updates on the process and prepare the information they will need in order to see what options are available to them. I just created an account and it was really easy.  And remember – this is a major part of the Affordable Care Act that even our NC legislators and Governor can’t stop!

Finally, although people who have good health plans in large companies will almost certainly keep their health plan, anyone who is currently uninsured or who currently has expensive or  not-very-good health coverage should create an account.  Given the federal tax credits available to over one million North Carolinians under the Affordable Care Act, who knows?  You might just get a much better deal!
