Ellmers to decline pay during shutdown following sharp criticism

Ellmers2nd District Congresswoman Renee Ellmers has had a change of heart and will opt to have her Congressional pay withheld as long as the government shutdown continues.

Rep. Ellmers came under heavy criticism earlier this week after telling WTVD:

“The thing is I need my paycheck. That’s the bottom line and I understand that maybe there are members who are deferring their paychecks and that’s admirable,” said Ellmers. “I’m not in that position.”

Constituents unable to reach the congresswoman’s office took to social media to get their point across.

Before this liberal media organ gives itself and the grassroots pressure it mobilized CREDIT for taking this money away from this congresscritter, is anyone willing to investigate the #of right-wing funders who promised her that THEY’D take up the slack? To avoid the bad publicity? And is anybody thinking about the impact of this on G.K.Butterfield?? HE needs HIS paycheck too, y’know! And the Koch brothers will NOT be stepping up to help HIM!!

Congerss gets paid MONTHLY. She HAS ALREADY BEEN paid for October!! She did NOT say anything about giving it back (YET)! Moreover, even if the shutdown is still in effect on Nov.1, she did not say she would be FORGOING the pay! She only said they should withhold it until the shutdown is over! Heck, she’ll get it BACK in time for Thanksgiving and Christmas!!

Republicans are NOT telling the truth. EVEN this apparent concession IS JUST spin!! She is not actually volunteering to lose ANYthing!!
