The head of communications for the state transportation department is leaving for a new job in the education industry.
Cris Mulder will be in her position as a deputy secretary of communications with the N.C. Department of Transportation through Dec. 6.
Hired in February for the $125,000-a-year job, Mulder had previously worked with DOT Secretary Tony Tata when he served as the Wake County schools superintendent.
In a Nov. 25 memorandum to staff about Mulder’s departure, Tata said Mulder was leaving to take a marketing and communications role with a national company but did not name the company in his memorandum. Mulder could not immediately be reached for comment Monday afternoon.
“Her new role allows Cris to return to education, a field in which she is very passionate and where she can focus her energy on strengthening communities and expanding opportunities for students across the country,” Tata wrote.
Mike Charbonneau, the agency’s director of communications, was promoted by Tata to replace Mulder.
