Senator Bob Rucho’s tweet that “Justice Robert’s pen & Obamacare has done more damage to the USA then the swords of the Nazis,Soviets & terrorists combined” (see below ) is bringing more unwanted national attention to the Old North State.
Among the outlets covering the absurd and offensive comment:
- Talking Points Memo
- Think Progress
- New York Magazine
- The Daily Beast
- Crooks & Liars
Seems likely that Jon Stewart and/or Stephen Colbert won’t be gar behind.
Meanwhile, Kevin Rogers of Action NC offers the following as a partial response:
CHARLOTTE—While the state of North Carolina waits for an apology for Sen. Rucho for his disgusting tweet, Action NC released the numbers behind the tweet.
500,000: Number of North Carolinians that won’t get health insurance because NC rejected Medicaid expansion through a bill sponsored by Sen. Bob Rucho
405,000: American deaths in World War II
364,682: Number of Americans that have successful gotten affordable health insurance through Obamacare, as of November 30
124,352: Number of North Carolinians that have applied for coverage through the federal health exchange by November 30
58,000: American deaths in Vietnam
36,000: American deaths in the Korean War
3,395: American military deaths in Afghanistan
2,997: Deaths in the 9/11 attacks
168: Number of people who died in the Oklahoma City bombing
0: Number of Americans that will be denied health insurance because of a pre-existing condition thanks to Obamacare
While Bob Rucho’s partisan bluster is turning heads for comparing Obamacare to dead Americans, we ought to be shocked by his callous opinion that health care for every American is a bad thing.”
