New Harvard/CUNY Study: Thousands will die in states that don’t expand Medicaid (like NC)

health35 [1]In a new study out today [2] in the respected Health Affairs journal, Harvard and CUNY researchers estimate some of the health effects on lower-income working people who live in states that are refusing the federal government’s offer of Medicaid expansion under the Affordable Care Act.  Most troubling is the following conclusion:

“We estimate the number of deaths attributable to the lack of Medicaid expansion in opt-out states at between 7,115 and 17,104.”

If there ever was a reason for NC Governor McCrory and legislators to change their short-sighted decision blocking Medicaid expansion, this is it.
