Sources: UNC Health Care CEO to become interim President of UNC System

Dr. William Roper, CEO of UNC Health Care, will be in the interim president of the UNC system, according to a source on the UNC Board of Governors.

 

The UNC Board of Governors will meet in emergency session Thursday morning to consider an interim president for the UNC system after the resignation of Margaret Spellings was announced last week.

The interim president will be Dr. William Roper, CEO of UNC Health Care and dean of the School of Medicine, according to a source on the board with direct knowledge of the discussions.

Edit (11:30 a.m.): A second source with direct knowledge of the discussions has confirmed Roper will be named interim president Thursday.

Both sources asked to remain anonymous as the board has yet to meet on the subject.
