Little in this story from the Washington Independent – (“Three anti-gay groups were pivotal in N.C. marriage amendment push“) will come as much of a surprise to North Carolinans paying attention, but it does provide a handy sketch of the groups behind the marriage amendment (and just how remarkably crazy a lot of the positions they take and things they say really are).

It’s also always amusing to be reminded once again of the Family Policy Council’s strange obsession with sodomy.

Narrow-minded, backward-looking and mean-spirited ignorance of the lowest order were on full display at the General Assembly today.

The occasion was a press conference conducted by the numbers two and three Republicans in the House, Representatives Paul Stam and Dale Folwell, to support their plan to amend the North Carolina constitution to ban marriage between same sex couples (something that state law already prohibits).
