Scientists from UNC Chapel Hill and Virginia Tech are offering free drinking water testing to private well users in Chatham County, beginning today. County residents and businesses are eligible for the sampling, on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Test kits will be distributed from 3:30 to 8:30 p.m. at two locations:
- Wesley Samuels Annex (next to Liberty Chapel Church), 1915 Old US Highway 1 in Moncure
- Central Carolina Community College, Building 42, Conference Room 2, at 764 West St., Pittsboro
Participants must drop off the sampling kits tomorrow between 6 and 9 a.m., at the same locations. The samples will be analyzed for various contaminants, including lead, arsenic and chromium. Confidential results will be mailed to residents’ homes.
Scientists Andrew George of UNC, and Kelsey Pieper of Virginia Tech, have conducted similar sampling in Robeson and Iredell counties.
